DERRY writer Sean O'Reilly's latest collection of short stories will be launched in Belfast next week. A dark, sometimes comic collection, Levitation comes recommended by heavyweight Irish writers Anne Enright and Eoin McNamee.

Co Down-born McNamee, whose works include Resurrection Man and the Booker Prize-nominated The Blue Tango, says: "It cannot be said often enough that Sean O'Reilly is the real thing, and these stories are extraordinary. Ghosts of deviance and sorrow dance across the pages." Booker Prize winner Enright calls Levitation a "radical, uncompromised, necessary work".

Born in 1969, O'Reilly studied at the University of East Anglia and lived in London and Norway before returning to Ireland, completing an MPhil in Creative Writing at Trinity College Dublin. His first collection, Curfew and Other Stories, and two novels, Love and Sleep and The Swing of Things, have been critically acclaimed. Based in Dublin, he is also a highly regarded teacher of creative writing.

:: Levitation, by Sean O'Reilly, is published by The Stinging Fly. It will be launched on Wednesday September 27 at 6.30pm in No Alibis book store, Botanic Avenue, Belfast.
