Battles, Tuesday August 16, The Black Box, Belfast

FORMED in 2002, experimental electro rock outfit Battles came together from a variety of math rock and alternative metal groups, including Don Caballero and Helmet.

Ian Williams, Dave Konopka, Tyondai Brazton and John Stanier took their time writing and recording their first release, EP C, which appeared on Monitor Records in 2004.

A further three EPs followed before Battles signed to Warp Records in 2007 for debut album Mirrored, a critical smash all over the world thanks in part to its signature single, Atlas.

When vocalist Braxton left in 2010, Battles continued with guest vocalists (including Gary Numan and the Boredoms' Yamantaka Eye) for next album Gloss Drop in 2011.

On their most recent LP, last year's La Di Da Di, the trio have re-invented themselves with record featuring an organic techno thrum of nearly infinite loops.

Experience this, and indeed them, live in Belfast on Tuesday.
