AN EXHIBITION of new paintings by Belfast artist Lisa Ballard, her first solo show in three years, opens at Gormley's Fine Art in the city today.

Ballard often leans towards abstraction, using landscape to explore colour and light. A graduate of Fine Art Painting from the University of Ulster and winner of President's Prize at the Royal Ulster Academy in 2003, she works from her studio in Belfast’s Cathedral Quarter.

The paintings are, she says, "influenced by my memories of time and place; they feature landscapes from my travels as far as Japan to as local as the north coast".

"Other scenes are an amalgamation of layers to create a new imagined landscape,” she says.

:: Runs until July 9 at Gormleys Fine Art, 471 Lisburn Road, Belfast. See gormleys.ie.
