The huge conurbation of Ireland's largest, most populous and cosmopolitan city, Dublin, sprawls along the coastline over most of County Dublin. Other small seaside towns like Dun Laoghaire, Dalkey and Howth have been swallowed up, and yet, with their pretty beaches, wildfowl sanctuaries and promenading piers, have remained largely untouched by the pulsing modern life of Ireland's capital city.
