old Kilkenny Castle Stables and many local craftspeople have shops
in the town. Kilkenny also has numerous hotels, b&bs, smart bars,
pubs, restaurants and cafes, nearby camping and bikes for rent.
Places to visit in Kilkenny include Kilkenny Castle, St Canice's
Cathedral, ruined Black Abbey and the ruined St John's Priory.

walls. The tourist office is in the Shee Alms House set up by
a local benefactor Sir Richard Shee in 1582. The maid of a local
woman Dame Alice Kyteler, who was reputed to have dispatched her
four husbands and was charged with practicing witchcraft, was
burnt at the stake in 1324 outside the Thosel, which is now the
town hall. The County Hall is built on the site of the former
Kilkenny College where the author of Gulliver's Travels, Jonathan
Swift studied. The Confederation of Kilkenny festival is in June
