All-Ireland SHC semi-final: Kilkenny 2-19 Waterford 2-17

KILKENNY reached another All-Ireland final after edging out Waterford by 2-19 to 2-17 at Semple Stadium.

Waterford had a chance to force extra time but Pauric Mahony's free from the halfway line in the fifth minute of injury time was pulled in by Cats goalkeeper Eoin Murph.

Richie Hogan then added the insurance point for Brian Cody’s men to give them victory.

Kilkenny lead by three points at the break - 2-10 to 2-7 - Colin Fennelly finding the net twice for the Cats in between Waterford majors from Austin Gleeson and Jake Dillon.

"I'm devastated for the lads because they put so much effort into it," said Waterford boss Derek McGrath.

"I'm immensely proud but we came to win the match and we had a great chance to win. It's no consolation to go toe-to-toe with an empire - if you like - we were here to win the match."
