KILKENNY star Richie Hogan could be out of action for up to six weeks after he suffered a serious injury while in action for his club at the weekend.

It was confirmed on Wednesday that Hogan, a seven-time All-Ireland winner with the Cats, broke his hand while playing for Danesfort in a county Senior Hurling League clash. Hogan initially played on with the injury, which was sustained in the first-half of the game against Ballyhale Shamrocks, but was forced to withdraw towards the end.

The former Hurler of the Year will see a specialist in Dublin on Friday to determine the extent of the injury and whether or not surgery is required. If Hogan does have to spend time on the operating table, he will miss at least six weeks of the Championship summer.

As it is, the Kilkenny star will miss the Leinster semi-final against Dublin on June 11 and could also be absent for the provincial final, if the Cats qualify.
