Stay with Suegioo for Cup glory

SUEGIOO can prove the solution to a tricky-looking renewal of the Socialites E-Cigarettes Expert Doncaster Cup on day three of the St Leger meeting on Town Moor.

In all honesty, it is probably not the best field ever assembled for this Group Two heat, hence Suegioo appears to have been found an ideal opportunity for a first Pattern success.

Winner of the Chester Cup last May, Marco Botti’s charge has paid for that success with a rating well in excess of 100, meaning the handicap tasks he has subsequently been set have proved tough going indeed.

That said, Suegioo is usually thereabouts, most recently finishing a fine third in the Ebor at York, being beaten just under two lengths despite conceding upwards of 5lb to both the first and second.

The one-mile-six-furlong trip that day was probably a bit on the short side for this stout stayer as he was only really getting going as the race was coming to an end and the two miles and two furlongs he faces here should provide a more exacting test.

Suegioo has virtually nothing to find on the ratings here and while it is theoretically a step up, he should be capable of punching his weight.

Gutaifan found only the exceptional Shalaa too good in the Prix Morny and must be backed with a modicum of confidence in the Fly Aer Lingus From Doncaster Sheffield Flying Childers Stakes. Richard Hannon’s charge has made great strides this season, winning three of his five starts including the Group Two Prix Robert Papin at Maisons-Laffitte back in July.

He beat subsequent Gimcrack winner Ajaya on that occasion and was far from disgraced when beaten just under two lengths by his fellow Al Shaqab runner in the Morny.

Gutaifan was well clear of the rest and with Shalaa not in opposition here, he must surely be the main contender for this Group Two prize.

Raaqy should have learnt plenty from a recent Listed defeat and can put that education to good use in the stsecuritysolutions.co.uk May Hill Stakes. This is another leap up in class for Barry Hills’ charge but as a daughter of Dubawi out of Classic winner Natagora, she should certainly not be lacking in the genes department.

She was a winner here on her racecourse bow back in June and a step up to a mile should suit her on breeding.

No Delusion is the pick in the Sungard Handicap at Sandown, while Canford Lilli can land the honours in the EBF Stallions Fillies’ Conditions Stakes at Salisbury.

Steve Rogers has some way to go match up to his superhero namesake but can do the business in the Boodles Diamond Handicap at Chester.
