Cork Moon is full of promise

THE smallest field at Cork on Sunday looks like producing the best race, with Moonmeister fancied to come out on top in the four-runner conditions event.

The two-miler is confined to four and five-year-olds and there doesn’t look a lot between them.

Tigris River is sure to be a popular choice after an impressive win at Galway and although he looks like a smart hurdler, he still has to prove that.

Lean And Keen and Moonmeister set good standards off marks of 130 and 128 respectively. Moonmeister comes here off the back of a disappointing effort at Galway, where he was pulled up, but the ground was against him.

He has shown throughout his career that he wants real good ground and with the track talking about watering over the weekend he has to have a good chance.

Jack Kennedy has shown he’s great value for his 7lb claim and with that off his back it leaves Moonmeister nice at the weights.

The other conditions hurdle on the card, over two-and-a-half, should go the way of Daneking. Willie Mullins’s charge has been running with credit on the Flat and, off a mark of 138 over timber, he looks clearly the best in the field.

Mares in foal had a habit of producing significantly improved performances and it was interesting to hear that Late Night Deed had been covered prior to her win at the track earlier in the month. That was a much improved run and she looks capable of supplementing that victory off an 8lb higher mark.

End Of Line was running in the French 2,000 Guineas just over 15 months ago and looks an intriguing runner in the opening maiden hurdle, while Pont De Alma, a half-sister to Pont Alexandre, is a newcomer to note in the bumper.
