Euxton will have no problems

RICHARD Fahey’s patience with Euxton can be rewarded at Thirsk this afternoon. The three-year-old filly had been set to run at Pontefract yesterday, but she was withdrawn 24 hours before the meeting due to unsuitable going.

With the ground likely to ride a bit slower at Thirsk, Fahey’s renowned placement of his horses can again come to the fore in the Pirates Family Day Friday 28th August Handicap.

The three-year-old daughter of Equiano is one of the least-exposed runners in this six-furlong dash, yet is in receipt of lots of weight from many of the supposed big players.

With the stable firing on all cylinders over the weekend, she also looks eminently capable of making a bold bid from off her revised mark of 64 judged by a slightly unlucky effort at this track in July.

Euxton hit trouble in running towards the final furlong yet stayed on with a degree of promise to finish fifth behind Bogsnog.

Despite her relative inexperience, she is already proven in big-field sprint handicaps, with this seven-furlong trip also considered a significant boon.

It is interesting to see Culloden run at Kempton after a relatively eyecatching display at Windsor less than a week ago.

Richard Hannon’s colt made a big leap forwards following an inauspicious handicap debut at Lingfield to take close order in a decent six-furlong affair.

As that was his first run since March, further improvement looks a given for a horse who is quietly getting his act together.

Culloden was doing all of his best work at the finish at Windsor so it is highly unlikely he will regress over this longer trip.

A humble mark of 56, allied to the reappointment of the excellent 5lb claimer Tom Marquand, is there to exploited in the Jockey Club Catering Handicap.

Ohsosecret perked up at Brighton earlier this month and could be coming to hand nicely for the toteexacta Pick The 1st And 2nd Handicap at Chelmsford.

The Stuart Williams-trained filly had produced next to nothing in five prior outings, but her third place finish was much more like it.

Ohsosecret looks quite fragile but she is seemingly up to the level required needed to win this.

Williams’ decision to give the daughter of Sakhee’s Secret a first try at exactly five furlongs could be a cunning move.
