Galileo will be going for Gold

Red Hand

HUGO PALMER looks to have found a nice opportunity for Galileo Gold to go one better than on debut when he contests the Bathwick Tyres Maiden Auction Stakes at Salisbury this afternoon.

The son of Paco Boy looked a surefire future winner when running a blinder on his debut at York.

Up against some rivals with previous experience, he shaped with a huge amount of promise when second to Age Of Empire.

The Richard Hannon-trained winner had already run behind Royal Ascot-bound Zebstar, while the third, Tawakkol, was having his fourth outing.

He met some interference at a crucial stage and although it would be stretching things to suggest he may have won, he would certainly have finished closer than the two-and-three-quarter lengths he was beaten.

His dam is a half-sister to the smart sprinter Goldream and he looks like €33,000 well spent.

Galileo Gold runs in the second division of the maiden and in the first, better can be expected of Hannon’s Racquet.

Fourth of eight over course and distance on debut, that was on ground with plenty of cut.

Hannon seems to have changed tack a bit with his juveniles this season and rather than having them all ready to run for their lives first time out, a large proportion are improving enormously for their first experience.

Hughie Morrison’s Sweet Selection can follow up a recent victory at Goodwood in the EBF Stallions Breeding Winners Margadale Fillies’ Handicap.

Given a mark of 66 after three reasonable runs in maidens, she made a mockery of that when winning eased down by two lengths.

The handicapper obviously did not like that and put her up 9lb, but there is every chance she is a filly on a steep upward curve.

Jeremy Noseda’s Mr Brightside has run in three good maidens and his time may come in the Bet365 Maiden Stakes at Lingfield.

John Bridger’s filly Katie Canford has defied her huge odds on both her outings to date and looks set to be suited by an extra furlong in the Maiden Fillies’ Stakes.

Sent off at 100/1 on debut and 33/1 last time out, she has finished third twice, suggesting there are races to be won with her.
