1971: Sammy Chapman became the first Nottingham Forest player to be sent off for 32 years. He was dismissed in a match against Leeds.

1989: Following the fight in Arsenal's 4-3 win over Norwich at Highbury, the Football Association punished the Gunners with a £20,000 fine and the Canaries with one of £50,000.

2006: Australia beat England by 277 runs in the first Ashes Test at Brisbane.

2007: Alex McLeish resigned as Scotland manager.

2009: Tiger Woods was involved in a car accident which eventually prompted revelations about his private life.

2011: The Football Association of Wales announced the death of manager Gary Speed.

2014: The cricket world was left in shock following the death of Australia batsman Phillip Hughes at the age of 25.

2015: British distance runner Paula Radcliffe was cleared of doping after athletics' world governing body the IAAF announced there were ''plausible explanations for the values in her profile'' that were ''entirely innocent''.
