Bowls: St Mark's set up semi clash with Craigavon rivals

COUNTY Armagh sides dominated proceedings in the Galway Bay Hotel-sponsored IIBA Club Championship at Shaw's Bridge last weekend.

St Mark's, Portadown, champions in 2013, assured themselves of a place in the semi-finals where they will clash wth local rivals St Anthony's, Craigavon. The latter, skipped by brothers Martin and Seán Trainor and Danny McDonald, were in superb form throughout the day and made the last four with a comfortable victory over Rosemount.

Meanwhile, St Mark's, with Jal Richardson, Pauline Beattie and Andrew LeckMarkey on skipping duty had to endure a few anxious moments in their section final against another Armagh side Crannagill.

With only three ends remaining the latter, skipped by Mark Sproule, Dane Jordan and Andrew Hughes, led by four shots. However, St Mark's made the perfect reply when they picked up nine shots to claim victory.

Afterwards a delighted Pauline Beattie said: "We were without several key players but, despite being behind in the latter stages, we kept our nerve and are still on course for the title."

The semi-finalists in the plate competition will be Spa Golf Club and St Colman's, Dervock.

The next round of matches will be played at Shaws Bridge on Saturday, November 21 with the semis and final at the same venue on Friday, November 27.
