VIDEO - Daredevils compete in wingsuit race

The Red Bull Aces takes the idea of ski cross to the skies - with wingsuit racing producing death-defying action high above the ground.

A one-mile long course set thousands of feet in the air features five gates for the daredevils to weave their way through whilst descending.

And if that wasn't dramatic enough, the four competitors begin by jumping from a helicopter, hovering above north California.

40 men and women from 18 countries took their chance - needing to match speed with accuracy if they wanted to be crowned champion.

By the time the final rolled around, the elite four had perfected their techniques, making the race almost too close to call.

Reigning champion Andy Farrington once again leading the way, finding himself persued by Noah Bahnson.

Both of the pilots also passed the gates with perfect accuracy - but Farrington was quicker - just - by less han four-tenths of a second to claim back to back crowns.
