WINNERS of the Ultimate Sports package were put through their paces by the Performa Sports team when they visited schools all across Ulster.

From Castleblayney, Dungannon, Keady and Craigavon through to Ballygawley, Carrickmacross and Virginia, the team trained pupils and teachers how to use the Performa Sports professional analytics software.

Our winning schools now have the opportunity to track, train and improve individual and team performance.

Joe Turley, Head of Marketing and Education at Performa Sports said: “We’re delighted to be supporting the Schools GAA Stats initiative in partnership with The Irish News.

“At Performa Sports we are always learning to improve and have been very impressed at how quickly the student analysts are putting the theory of video analysis and stats into practice, and equally how the coaches and players are using this to improve coaching and learning.”

We’ll now be keeping track of each team’s progress throughout their respective competitions, including the MacRory Cup and Markey Cup.

Every two weeks our league table will be updated to show which schools are using the software to its full potential and reaping the rewards by developing their basic KPIs, such as increasing Kickouts / Puckouts won.

Every student that takes part in collecting data will receive a sports statistician certificate to acknowledge the work they have put into the school teams and their development of new skills in data analytics.

The school that shows the greatest improvement in their KPI statistics, not necessarily the school with the most wins under their belt during the season, will also be invited to attend a special awards event.

It will be held in The Irish News offices in Donegall Street, Belfast to acknowledge their achievement in improving their team’s skills throughout the initiative.

Irish News Marketing Manager John Brolly said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Performa Sports as the School Sports Stats initiative is excellent in bringing maths and PE together in the school environment.

“It is also developing not only the students playing Gaelic games, but also the student statistical teams providing the insights into player and team performance.

“It is excellent that the initiative is inclusive of all GAA codes and open to girls and boys.”
