Antrim U14 Camogie final:
Brídíní Óga, Glenravel 3-11 Ballycastle 1-3
BRÍDÍNÍ ÓGA, Glenravel collected their first grade A camogie title and the Karen Coyles Cup in Dunloy, powering home in the second-half with a series of excellent points.
Ballycastle more than matched the eventual winners in the opening half, closing them down at half-back, midfield and half-forward and, heading into the break, only two points separated the sides, 1-3 to 1-1. The game turned dramatically in the minute before half-time and the 30 seconds after. During that period, the Glenravel girls hit 2-1.
They got off to a great start, with 1-2 in the opening 10 minutes, Clodagh Kerr blasting home the goal. However, Ballycastle hit back midway through the half with a goal from Naomi Williams and a point from Rhianna McBride. Close on half-time, Clodagh Kerr forced home a second goal and Shauna McDonnell pointed the poc-out for her side to turn over in a healthy 2-4 to 1-1 lead.
A goal within 30 seconds of the second-half throw-in from the industrious Alishia McPeake put her side firmly in the driving seat and they fired over some excellent points before the end, the pick of the scores another from distance from McDonnell.
Almost the same line-out of players had collected the Antrim U14 championship football title in June and they are very much in line to clinch the league double, with key football games against Rossa and St Paul’s and a final camogie tie with Dunloy over the next couple of weeks.
