DOWN and Armagh are both in action on Saturday in National League divisions two and three respectively.

Down are currently in second place in group two for Division Two following a draw with Kilkenny and a victory over Wexford and the Mourne girls will be hoping to continue their bright start to the season when they take on Carlow on Sunday.

Captain Paula Gribben has lead by example this season and with the sharpshooting Niamh Mallon and Sara Louise Carr the Mourne girls are more than capable of taking the points on Sunday.

“We’ve got off to a good start in the League and it has given us a chance to try out a few things. We know that there still work to be done but this is a good basis to build on as we head towards the Ulster and All-Ireland campaigns,” said Down’s Paula Gribben.

Antrim’s Division Two clash with Galway will not take place as the Saffrons have conceded the game, much to the disappointment of team selector Joe Baldwin: “It is very disappointing that we find ourselves in this position. I know that the talent and the players are in Antrim it’s trying to get them to commit to the county.

“It is also disappointing for the girls who made themselves available that they won’t get a game. The National League is now in its third week and we’ve yet to have a match as Cork and Limerick didn’t field against us. I think it is a problem that camogie needs to address at on a larger scale as it is becoming an increasing problem across the board,” said Baldwin.

In Division Three, first take on second in a top of the table clash as Armagh face Roscommon. The Orchard county sit top of the table having defeated Dublin and Cavan but Sunday’s clash with The Rossies promises to be a tighter affair.

"At this stage of the season I'm more concerned about the performance rather than the result. It is about getting the young players the opportunity to play for their County, the likes of Hannah McGeown and Eimear Hayes have gained some vital experience.

"Roscommon will provide a different challenge for us, last year we struggled against them but hopefully we can put in a good performance," said Armagh manager John McCormack.
