Sean McGuckin appointed Derry senior camogie manager

SEAN McGUCKIN is the new Derry senior camogie manager for 2016.

McGuckin managed Swatragh hurlers to their first championship in 2012 and worked with Swatragh camogie team last year. Joining McGuckin as part of the backroom team will be Michael McCullagh and Tony Austin.

McCullagh is a highly-respected coach, who is regarded as one of Ulster top coaches. He has been successful with Antrim and Down county teams as well as top club teams around Ulster. Austin, meanwhile, is renowned for having teams in top physical shape. Austin was part of the St Mary's CBS, Belfast management team that won Mageean Cups. He has also coached camogie club teams in Antrim, Derry and Down.

McGuckin thanked the county board for the opportunity to manage the Oak Leaf team: “We the management team hope to leave no stone unturned in our preparation to bring Derry to the top table in senior camogie," he said.

“We believe the talent lies within the county and will be holding trials in early January in order to pick a panel of players for 2016,” added McGuckin.

Any player wishing to represent Derry camogie team are to contact McGuckin by emailing mcguckinplumbing@hotmail.co.uk by 9pm on Tuesday, December 29. Three trail games will be played on Wednesday, January 6; Sunday, January 10; and Wednesday, January 13 before the panel will be selected for the upcoming league, commencing on February 21.

All players wanting to play for the county this year are to make themselves available for these three trial games.
