LEONA Maguire carded a final round 69 to finish her Olympic campaign on two under par in a share of 21st, as South Korea's Inbee Park took the gold medal.

The Duke University student from Co Cavan carded rounds of 74/65/74/69 at Reserva de Marapendi.

Her Ireland team mate, Stephanie Meadow, closed out her Olympics with a final round 72 to share 31st position on two over par.

Park ended the tournament on 16 under, five clear of world number one - New Zealand's Lydia Ko - while China's Shanshan Feng won bronze.

Great Britain's Charley Hull shot a 68 to finish tied for seventh on eight under as women's golf returned to the Games for the first time since 1900.

Meanwhile, Derry woman Ireland’s Aileen Reid finished 21st  in the triathlon as Gwen Jorgensen of the United States grabbed gold.

Reid was in 31st place after the 1.5km swim, 19.19 seconds behind Spain’s Carolina Routier, who led the way after the first discipline.

The 34-year-old was 35th after the 38.48km bike race, three minutes and 23 seconds behind overall leader Lisa Norden of Sweden.

Aileen Reid ultimately finished in 21st place after the 10km swim, four minutes and 58 seconds behind Gwen Jorgensen.
