Rory McIlroy on road to recovery ahead of US PGA

JJUST four weeks ago, Rory McIlroy was preparing to repeat his impressive back-to-back major-winning feat of 2014 -- as he set out to defend his Open Championship and the US PGA crowns.

But then disaster struck for the world's number one golfer as a seemingly innocuous kickaround with friends saw the 26-year-old limp away with ruptured anterior ligaments, casting a dark cloud over his hopes of competing again in 2015.

McIlroy was forced to sit out the Open at St. Andrew's, which saw Zach Johson claim his second major title.

But this week brings rumours that he could be on the verge of a remarkable comeback.

Exactly one month on from his injury, reports suggest he may have booked a practice round at Whistling Straights - the scene of the year's final major.

But even if that proves to true, many believe the Holywood golfer's injury is not one that should be taken lightly.

However, the golfer posted this video on his Instagram account, showing him training in the gym.
