The dramatic deferred 2020 Donegal county final took a fresh twist last night as it emerged that beaten finalists Kilcar have submitted an objection concerning the final, which Naomh Conaill won on penalties on Saturday night.

It is believed that Kilcar, as part of their objection, have asked for the referee’s report and both teamsheets from the match against the Glenties side.

They are alleging that Naomh Conaill exceeded the allowed number of substitutes in extra-time.

Rule 2.4 (i) of the GAA’s Official Guide states: “The maximum number of substitutes permitted during the playing of Normal Time shall be five. (ii) A maximum of three Substitutions shall be allowed during the playing of Extra Time.”

The Donegal Competitions Control Committee confirmed last night that it had received correspondence from the Kilcar club.

The CCC will meet to consider the objection. They will then notify Naomh Conaill, who will have three days to reply.

Efforts to contact the Kilcar club to confirm their objection were unsuccessful.

Naomh Conaill edged out Kilcar 4-2 on penalties after the sides were deadlocked on a score of Naomh Conaill 2-7 Kilcar 0-13 at the end of extratime at MacCumhaill Park in Ballybofey. It is understood that if a breach of the rule is proven the CCC can either award the game to Kilcar, fine Naomh Conaill or order a replay
