EAST Belfast GAC Ladies chairperson Meadhbh McGahan wants a couple of coaches to join the black and amber revolution as the GAA prepares itself to emerge from the latest lockdown.

Tyrone native McGahan is casting a line out to see if there is someone out there who can help develop the ladies section at the new club.

Even though the club has been in lockdown, McGahan says the buy-in from the ladies’ players has been incredible during their remote pre-season, with 76 players registered and another 15 waiting in the wings to join.

“We cater for all abilities so the ‘A’ team is the competitive team and that’s the team that’s entered into the league,” explained McGahan, who also plays for ‘East’.

“The ‘B’ team is of mixed ability, people who may have sporting ability but not necessarily from a GAA background; some mightn’t have any sporting background at all or very limited experience. So we need the coaching expertise to help out our 'B' team.”

East Belfast was conceived during last year’s first lockdown and is fielding in all codes and their youth development strategy is now at an advanced stage.

“Our ideal scenario would be to have a couple of coaches in there; coaches with some experience and another who can coach players the basics of the game and develop them. It’s such an inclusive club with a group of players who are so committed.”
