TG4 to show Antrim hurling and Fermanagh football finals live

The Antrim club SHC final will be shown live on TG4 for the first time at the end of this month, with holders Cushendall and 2017 winners Dunloy still in the hunt.

TG4 will show live coverage of the Fermanagh football and Antrim hurling finals over the next three weeks as the club campaign really kicks into life.

While the Irish language broadcaster has long been heralded for its coverage of the club game, the decision to show the two ties in Ulster marks a departure even for them.

The fact that the Fermanagh final was chosen at the expense of two hurling semi-finals in Limerick, both of which will be shown deferred, and that Antrim’s hurling decider will be shown instead of the Dublin SFC clash between Ballymun and rivals Na Fianna makes it a significant milestone for the small ball game in Ulster.

Derrygonnelly will be going for five Erne county titles in a row when they meet Roslea on September 22, with TG4’s coverage beginning at 2pm ahead of a 2.30 throw-in.

The Antrim semi-finals take place this weekend, namely Cushendall v St John’s and Dunloy v Loughgiel, with the winners of the two ties to go in front of the cameras at 3pm on September 29.

RTÉ, meanwhile, will begin their coverage of the club championships by showing back-to-back quarter-finals from the Cork hurling championship on Saturday, September 21.

This is the first year of a new sub-licensing deal that allows RTÉ to show live club championship ties as part of an agreement with the GAA and eir Sport that saw them also show National League games this spring.

RTÉ's live club championship matches will consist of two matches each weekend, from September through November.

TG4 are still the primary broadcaster and get the choice of the first two games each weekend.
