CLOGHER Éire Óg will host their annual 10km road race on Wednesday August 14, with the race starting at 7.30pm from the local GAC grounds.

The race is run over a fast, flat course which will give competitors a real chance to set PBs.

Also on the night will be a 5km race and a family walk.

Twelve months ago the 2nd run attracted almost 300 runners to the starting blocks in the picturesque Clogher Valley. The men’s race was won by local runner Adrian Scullion coming home in a time of 36.07.

The first female runner crossing the finish line was Grainne O’Hagan in a time of 39.55.

Speaking ahead of the race, Club Secretary Eugene Mc Connell stated “The course is designed to be flat and fast, it starts in the middle of Clogher makes its way to Knockmany Forest, across to the village of Augher and home via the main road back to Clogher, finishing at the football pitch. Last year’s course and event received a lot of positive feedback and this is testament to the volunteers who do a lot of work in the weeks and months to prepare for the event.”

The huge numbers attending last year included runners from all parts of Tyrone as well as neighbouring counties of Fermanagh, Monaghan, Armagh and Derry.

The warm welcome and hospitality provided after the run was well received by each and every runner who took part.

The prize fund this year has prizes for the first, second and third male and female runners in the 10k event, plus first over 40/50/60 prizes.

BREDAGH GAC are offering the chance to win two tickets for both All Ireland finals.

The draw will take place on Thursday August 15, time and venue to be confirmed. It will be live on Facebook. First Prize will be the choice of either Hurling or Football Ticket’s.

ST JOHN'S Drumnaquoile U12 Girls squad attended the May Steele Cup at Castlewellan GAC playing against Castlewellan, Clonduff and Bryansford B. With the group stages finished we progressed onto the shield competition.

In our semi-final we were up against Downpatrick in what was a complete nail-bitter as the young 'Johnnies' stayed focused and won by three points. On to the final where we faced Liatriom Fontenoys our girls just fell short. St John’s would like to thank Castlewellan and all the organisers on a very well-run blitz.Six weeks ago St John’s launched Gaelic 4 Mothers & Others. Despite it being holiday season, attendances have been steady and a team of fearless Gaelic players has emerged.

Their first match will be at home to Loughinisland on Saturday August 10 with throw-in at 3pm.

Our walking group usually climb or scramble their way up mountains, but last Saturday we took the stairs - “Stairway to Heaven” in Cuilcagh Mountain Park in Fermanagh.

Our next bus trip will be on Saturday September 7 when we set sail for the Ards Peninsula for a coastal walk and a visit to Echlinville Gin Distillery. We will be leaving St John’s at 9am. Booking is essential. Please contact Kevin McGlynn on 078 3596 0804 or kevin.mcglynn62@gmail.com
