Derry duo Michael McEvoy and Niall Toner to miss Championship summer

UU's player of the year Michael McEvoy will miss Derry's championship campaign, as will Lavey forward Niall Toner.

DERRY will be without young duo Michael McEvoy and Niall Toner for this year’s championship as they will both travel to America for the summer.

McEvoy was recently named as Ulster University’s senior footballer of the year and had played the full 70 minutes in four of Derry’s last five league games, including the Division Four final win over Leitrim.

Toner has been in and out of the side in recent seasons, with a troublesome hamstring injury not helping his cause, but in a season where the Oak Leafers are bare of inside forwards his impact from the bench will be missed.

It's understood that both had informed Derry management of their intentions from the beginning of the season.
