1933: England beat Australia by six wickets to win the fourth Test match at Brisbane and thus regain the Ashes in the 'Bodyline' series.
1991: Great Britain beat France 60-4 in Leeds to register what was then their biggest win in a rugby league international.
1992: Martina Navratilova beat Jana Novotna in the Chicago Virginia Slims tournament - the 158th title of her career - to become the most successful tennis player of all time.
2004: Manchester United were placed in an Offer Period after American tycoon Malcolm Glazer ambiguously stated he was "considering" whether to make a bid for the club. His shareholding then stood at 16.31 per cent.
2005: North American ice hockey was thrown into turmoil after the entire National Hockey League season was cancelled because of disagreements over the salary cap. It was the first time in American sport an entire season had been called off.
2007: Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson revealed he had banned an agent from the club's Carrington training complex for 'tapping up' academy prospects.
2017: Mark Clattenburg quit his role as a Premier League referee to take a senior position in Saudi Arabia.
2018: Roger Federer, then 36, became the oldest number one singles player in tennis history after beating Robin Haase in the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament quarter-finals in Rotterdam.
