DIVISION ONE

Mayo 1-8 Roscommon 1-7

MAYO managed to turn around a four-point interval deficit to claim victory in their opening Division One match of the year at MacHale Park on Saturday evening.

Brian Reape was the hero for the Westerners, hitting the winning goal with five minutes remaining. Three points from Jason Doherty in the second period hauled Mayo back into the lead before Reape struck.

Shane Killoran saw his shot deflected into the net five minutes into added-time, but it wasn’t enough for Roscommon, who had Ultan Harney sent-off for two yellow card offences in the final five minutes.

DIVISION TWO

Meath 0-15 Tipperary 1-8

A LATE scoring spree helped Meath to finally see off a dogged Tipperary side in Navan yesterday afternoon.

The Royal county led by four points in the first-half and by the same margin in the third quarter, but were pegged back to level terms on both occasions. It made for an intriguing finalé and Andy McEntee’s side edged it by outscoring the Munster men 0-5 to 0-1 in the final 15 minutes.

Substitutes Cillian O'Sullivan and Graham Reilly had a strong influence, with O'Sullivan playing a direct role in four of their points and ex-captain Reilly collecting a neat score.

DIVISION THREE

Carlow 1-11 Sligo 0-7

CARLOW ran out comfortable winners over Sligo at Dr Cullen Park. A fortunate goal from Paul Broderick in the first-half set the Barrowsiders on their way against a Sligo side who scored once from play.

Offaly 0-12 Westmeath 0-13

WESTMEATH staged a terrific comeback to overcome Offaly at O'Connor Park in Tullamore, A Kieran Martin point deep into injury-time made the difference for the Lake county, who trailed by 0-11 to 0-3 after 43 minutes.

Louth 0-9 Longford 1-8

THREE late scores from Longford’s three substitutes saw them pick up the points in their clash with Louth in Drogheda. Joseph Hagan, Darragh Doherty and Nigel Rabbitte all raised the white flag in the dying minutes.

DIVISION FOUR

Waterford 0-9 Wicklow 1-7

A LATE free, converted by goalkeeper Mark Jackson, saw Wicklow edge out Waterford by a single point at Fraher Field. Patrick O'Connor chipped in with 1-1 for the visitors before Jackson nailed his 35-metre free.

Leitrim 3-15 Wexford 0-11

A BLISTERING second-half performance saw Leitrim open their Division Four campaign with a big win over Wexford at Páirc Seán Mac Diarmada. Ryan O’Rourke proved Wexford’s chief tormentor, finishing the game with a personal tally of 2-7.

London 0-10 Limerick 0-11

LIMERICK edged out London to get their Division Four campaign off to a winning start. The visitors got four unanswered scores after the break to give themselves a cushion, but London kept battling and a late Liam Gavaghan point made sure it was tense until the final whistle.
