Ulster Club Senior Football Championship final: Gaoth Dobhair 1-13 Scotstown 0-12

GAOTH Dobhair ended a Donegal Ulster club famine in dramatic fashion this afternoon, as they squeezed past Scotstown to lift the Seamus McFerran cup.

The now defunct St Joseph’s had been the one and only Donegal club to lift the top honours, all of 43 years ago, and Gaoth Dobhair came into the final having been crowned top dogs in Donegal for the first time since 2006.

But at a rain-sodden Healy Park in Omagh, the men from west Donegal added their club’s name to the provincial roll of honour, getting the better of the Monaghan champions, after extra time, on a 0-13 to 0-12 score line.

It was a game in which both teams found it difficult to land a decisive blow, and Seaghan Ferry scored the winning point for Gaoth Dobhair, after Scotstown had top scorer Shane Carey sent off in the first period of extra time.
