ULSTER GAA delegates, including chief executive Brian McAvoy, met with the NI Civil Service this week in a bid to retain the Curriculum Sports Programme in schools.

The meeting with Civil Service Head David Sterling was led by former Armagh All-Ireland winner Justin McNulty and also included representatives from the Irish Football Association.

Mullaghbawn native McNulty described the Curriculum Sports Programme as “invaluable to thousands of children” but explained that the collapse of the Executive at Stormont had put its future at risk.

“The latest deadline (for funding) is fast approaching and there is real uncertainty about the future of the programme,” he said.

“The meeting with David Sterling was productive and the engagement between the Head of the Civil Service, Ulster GAA and the IFA along with cross party political representatives will continue in the weeks ahead. I hope the engagement with all concerned will result in a positive outcome.”
