BREDAGH relieved Carryduff of their Down Ladies Senior Football Championship crown with a 2-14 to 0-8 win at Castlewellan on Saturday. Played as part of a triple header, the Belfast side were ahead by eight points at the break - leading 1-11 to 0-6 - and ran out out convincing winners.
The intermediate title was won by Saval after they overcame Rostrevor on a 2-12 to 1-11 score line while Dundrum took the junior spoils, beating Loughinisland 3-13 to 1-14. Speaking after the game, victorious Bredagh captain Hannah Murray said the win was for her departing team mate Cassie Mone.
"I want to dedicate this to Cassie Mone, who is playing her last match in a Bredagh jersey," said Hannah.
"She takes the plane to Australia at the end of the month, so Cassie this is for you. Bredagh abu."
1,500 people were in attendance, and Down LGFA tweeted: "Huge crowds filled the stand in Castlewellan, young and old! It was fantastic to see how many people came along and give the players the recognition they deserve!
"The profile of the LGFA in Down this year has been pushed to the fore, it was clear to see yesterday that Ladies football is a serious business! The standard of football and sportsmanship was first class.''
