CONFIRMATION of the time and venue for the Cavan versus Down second round Qualifier is expected today.

The Ulster rivals were drawn together in yesterday’s draw but redevelopment of the pitch at Kingspan Breffni means the match cannot be played there and alternatives including Kingscourt, Clones and Castleblayney are understood to have been considered for hosting the game.

Down were well beaten by Donegal in Clones on Sunday while Mattie McGleenan’s Cavan also lost to the impressive Tir Chonaill outfit in Ulster but were able to get that loss out of their system with a workmanike win in Wicklow last weekend.

Elsewhere, Malachy O’Rourke’s Monaghan – beaten Ulster semi-finalists - will face a Waterford side that celebrated their county’s first Championship win in seven years with victory over Wexford on Saturday.

Armagh, fresh from their commanding win over Westmeath in Mullingar, are on the road again. Kieran McGeeney’s men travel to Markievicz Park to take on Cathal Corey’s Sligo. The Yeatsmen will hope to recover from the 4-24 to 1-12 mauling they received from Galway in the Connacht semi-finals.
