THE candidate to lead the £1m ‘Gaelfast’ plan will have a minimum of three years senior and financial management experience and previously managed at least 10 staff or more, while it is desirable to have “knowledge of the Association”.

The Antrim County Board is looking to appoint a ‘Regeneration Manager’ on a salary of £60,000 per year to ensure Belfast gets value for the million pounds that Croke Park will invest over the next five years in a bid to increase participation levels among primary school children in the city.

The demanding job specification for the key role runs to four pages where it states the successful candidate will hold a Primary Honours degree and be involved in the “recruitment and development of a highly-motivated development team including an urban development manager, development officers and a dedicated administrator who will introduce the ethos of the GAA initially to primary schools and latterly secondary schools”.

The Regeneration Manager will “report regularly on its operational and strategic progress to the Antrim County Regeneration Management Board”.

New GAA President John Horan and the Association’s newly installed Director-General Tom Ryan have cautioned that Croke Park’s £1m investment will need to yield results over the coming years.

Speaking to The Irish News at last week’s launch in Belfast, Horan said: “There has to be results and there has to be outcomes to the investment”, while Ryan added at Wednesday’s media briefing that Croke Park would be watching “carefully” how the project is progressing.

At least four Urban development managers will spend at least one day per week in Belfast’s primary schools during term time and will be answerable to the Regeneration Manager.

The closing date for the £60,000 per year post is Friday April 27 at 5pm.
