Donaghmoyne face tough ladies football semi-final test against Cavan champions, Lurgan

Ladies Football: Ulster Club Championship

THE inter-county scene might be over for another year but the Ulster Club Championship is in full swing.

The senior competition is now down to the last four and after this weekend, so too will be the junior and intermediate grades.

Back-to-back All-Ireland champions Donaghmoyne still have both hands on their provincial and national titles but they will face a tough semi-final test against Cavan champions Lurgan, who have yet to taste provincial championship action having had a bye in the quarter-finals. Donaghmoyne, who have appeared in every Ulster final since 2004 saw off Antrim champions St Paul’s 2-11 to 0-2 last weekend.

Armagh county winners Clann Eireann had a 5-16 to 1-5 win over Down side Carryduff and they will now play St Macartans last year’s senior finalists after they came through a tough last eight tie away to Glenfin, 2-13 to 4-5.

Those semi-final games are scheduled for next weekend, October 22.

Two of the intermediate quarter-finals have already been decided with St Naul’s (Donegal) and Crosserlough (Cavan) through to the semis after wins over Ballymartin (Down) and Aghyaran (Tyrone). The remaining two will take place tomorrow and sees Derry champions Steelstown, who won the Ulster junior title in 2015, travel to Monaghan to face Latton while Newtownbutler, winners of this particular intermediate title in 2012, who overcame Antrim side Naomh Seamas in the preliminary round are away to Crossmaglen.

Similarly, the last of the two quarter-finals in the junior competition are down for decision. Already in the semis are Monaghan side Corduff who defeated Clonoe (Tyrone) and Cavan county champions Cornafean, who came away defeated St John’s (Down) last weekend.

Derry side Moneymore host Ballyhegan Davitts (Armagh) who had a preliminary round win over Con Magee’s Glenravel while Naomh Conaill (Donegal) will face Fermanagh champions Devenish.
