M&L Contracts Derry SFC quarter-final: Glen 2-17 Kilrea 1-13

A STORMING second half display at Owenbeg last night took Glen into a Derry SFC semi-final meeting with holders and neighbours Slaughtneil, writes Seamus Mullan.

There were unsavoury scenes in added time at the end of the game that resulted in straight red cards for Kilrea’s Larry Kielt and Paddy McNeill and Glen’s Emmett Bradley.

The sides were all-square at 0-10 each after an enthralling first half.

Glen were three points down inside five minutes with Niall Johnston and Paddy McNeill on target.

Bradley and Stevie O’Hara put Glen on the scoreboard but two points from James Kielt put Kilrea to 0-6 to 0-2 in front midway through the half.

Glen staged a strong comeback to go in level at the break with Bradley converting his third free in added time to tie the scores.

O’Hara put Glen in control with two points early in the second half, while Ciaran McFaul converted a 35th minute penalty when Bradley was fouled.

Midway through the half Bradley hammered the ball to the net to put 10 points between the sides.

Kilrea put in a spirited finish and, though Larry Kielt found the net 10 minutes from time, Glen ran out winners to book a semi-final crack at the reigning champions. The other semi-final will see Ballinascreen play Greenlough.
