FULL-TIME STATS: High-flying Tyrone trounce Donegal to reach Ulster SFC final while Antrim exit and Derry march on

THE build-up predicted a tight, down-to-the-wire battle but it proved the exact opposite as Tyrone swept aside the challenge of Donegal at Clones today.

Mickey Harte’s men were in superb form, slicing through the Donegal defence with ease.

By the final whistle they had trounced their neighbouring rivals 1-21 to 1-12 and the margin of victory, although heavy, could have been even greater.

They will face tougher tasks in the weeks and months ahead in their quest for Sam Maguire but Tyrone are flying high at the minute.

Elsewhere, there were mixed fortunes for Ulster sides in yesterday’s All-Ireland SFC Qualifiers.

Antrim bowed out to Sligo on a 0-22 to 3-7 scoreline.

``The ease with which Sligo got some of their scores in the latter stages will give the men in saffron nightmares,’’ writes Brendan Crossan.

``The hurt of this defeat will run deep.’’

But Derry avoided any slip-ups and put their name in the hat for the second round of the Qualifiers on a baking hot Saturday afternoon at Fraher Field, thumping Waterford 1-17 to 0-13.
