FERMANAGH secretary Tom Boyle believes that the county must assess the future development of their training facilities at Lissan next year.

The county’s training base has been open since 2005 and according to Boyle, the pitches have taken considerable ‘wear and tear’ during the time since. In his report to this year’s convention, the Erne official recalls using similar words two years ago but that ‘little progress’ has been made since.

“In my report to the 2014 Convention I noted that ‘Lissan Centre has being up and running since 2005 and over this period a lot of traffic has passed through with our playing fields very much in use by our county teams of both codes and ladies teams as well as various activities promoted by our games development and schools," he said.

"All this takes its toll on the wear and tear of the facilities. It is time to do a comprehensive review of existing facilities and put in place a plan to maintain existing structures and explore new developments on the Lissan site.’

“Two years on I have to report that little progress apart from some remedial work to the playing fields and existing buildings has been made on this front. In 2017 it is important that we review and assess future development of Lissan,” he said.

Boyle also urged clubs to review the detail of Páraic Duffy’s proposal for a revamped All-Ireland senior football championship and offer feedback to the county board.

Revealing that Duffy will attend the county’s committee meeting in February to discuss issues detailed on the document, the Brookeborough clubman told clubs that their input was “important”.
