Omagh CBS too strong for St Colman's

MacRory Cup: Omagh CBS 2-11 St Colman's, Newry 0-9

OMAGH CBS got off to a solid start yesterday in Armagh in their opening game of the Danske Bank MacRory Cup against St Colman’s Newry with a 2-11 to 0-9 win.

There were good personal performances from Eoin Byrne at full-back, captain Peter Og McCartan, centre-forward Ryan McCusker and the midfield pairing did well in opposition to Thomas Travers and Oisin O’Neill.

St Colman’s depended a lot on Rian O’Neill and Eoghan McDonnell for scores and when the south Armagh duo could make little headway against Omagh’s defence during the second half, Omagh ground out the result they wanted.

Eoin Donnelly grabbed a goal for them in the opening half to put them 1-7 to 0-5 ahead after 22 minutes and the sides turned around at 1-8 to 0-6.

St Colman’s had a couple of chances to narrow the gap with frees during the third quarter but failed to do so and Ryan McCusker’s goal in the 50th minute nailed the points for the Tyrone side who now face St Patrick’s, Cavan on Saturday while the Newry side will play Patrician, Carrickmacross at Haggardstown near Dundalk, also on Saturday.
