Tyrone SFC: Dromore ease past Strabane

Vauxhall Donnelly Tyrone SFC round one

Dromore 2-19 Strabane 0-6

Title favourites Dromore cruised through to a Donnelly Vauxhall Tyrone SFC quarter-final clash with Ardboe, brushing aside Strabane’s challenge at Killyclogher last night.

Ruairi Sludden hit both first half goals as the St Dympna’s seized control of the contest from an early stage. They attacked in waves, hitting points through Emmet O’Neil, Ronan McNabb jnr and Eoin McCusker.

Warner Mulan converted a couple of Strabane frees, but Sludden found the net in the 18th and 24th minutes, and at the break, the St Dympna’s led by 2-11 to 0-4.

Wing back O’Neill finished with four points to cap an outstanding display, while Ruairi and Niall Sludden, Kevin Donnelly and Sean McNabb all added scores.

Warner Mullan was Strabane’s top-scorer with four points, all from placed balls.

Kildress 1-9 Augher 0-11

Kildress dug deep to win a gritty battle at Edendork and set up a Donnelly Vauxhall Tyrone SFC quarter-final clash with Coalisland.

Des Treacy gave them an early boost with a fortuitous goal direct from a free, but Augher’s ace attacker Darragh Kavanagh rifled over a string of scores to bring his side back into it.

Niall Quinn edged Kildress ahead by 1-3 to 0-5 at the break, but Kavanagh had Augher in front early in the second half.

The sides were level on seven occasions, but it was the Wolfe Tones who finished strongly, late scores from Philip Lennon and Quinn

Ardboe 1-15 Edendork 0-9

Fourteen-man Ardboe set up a quarter-final clash with Dromore by overcoming Edendork by nine points at Plunkett Park.

They led by 0-8 to 0-4 at half-time, with Kyle Coney, Shay McGuigan and Michael Cassidy all on target.

Martin McKeown smashed home a 34th minute goal, but the Rossas lost Ciaran Gervin to yellow/black cards four minutes later.

Edendork rallied, but Darren McCurry could only manage a point from a penalty.

They had scores from McCurry, Paul Donaghy and Stephen Gervin and trailed by three with 12 minutes to play, but Ardboe finished strongly, with McGuigan and Coney finishing with four points each.
