Roslea S’rocks 1-17 St Patrick’s, Donagh 0-17

A Brendan Sherlock goal inside the first five minutes was the score that separated the sides at the final whistle as second division St Pat’s gave Roslea plenty to think about.

The Shamrocks shot into a five-point lead with Sherlock adding to his goal with a point and Sean Quigley also getting in on the act.

When St Pats did get on the score it was from a free from Michael Montgomery and they went on to kick the next three scores through Pat Cadden, Jason Cadden and Kevin Curran.  Three points was the difference at the break

In the second half, the teams were to share 20 points in what was a surprisingly open game of football.  The evergreen Eamon Maguire cut the deficit to two but Roslea, through Sean Quigley, were regularly able to score at the other end.

Quigley was in imperious form from both play and frees over the course of the hour. Montgomery and Cadden brought St Pat’s back to within a point but the Quigley boys raised two white flags in quick succession to restore the three-point advantage.

St Pat’s kept lofting points of their own but they were never able to break through for that all-important goal and Roslea held their nerve to book a semi final with Erne Gaels

Derrygonnelly 1-14 Ederney 1-09

Defending champions Derrygonnelly booked their place in the last four with a hard-fought five point win over Ederney.

A black card for Ederney’s inspirational midfielder Marty McGrath after 15 minutes was a hammer blow with the former Allstar already having collected 1-1 of his side’s 1-2 when he was sent to the line.

Derrygonnelly would go on and score five of the next six points and despite playing some excellent football, Ederney were never able to reel in the Harps who will be happy with their performance.

The win sets up a meeting with Devenish in the last four in what is a repeat of the semi final last season.

Erne Gaels 3-16 Irvinestown 2-10

The final scoreline is somewhat flattering for Irvinestown who had no answer to the forward play of Erne Gaels, who set out their stall as one of the dark horses for the title.

At one stage of the second half, Erne Gaels held a commanding 12-point lead on a scoreline of 2-14 to 0-8 and although an Irvinestown revival brought the game back to 2-15 to 2-8 with five to go, Erne Gaels were able to grab a third goal to put the game beyond doubt.

The winners got off to the best possible start with a Ryan Lyons goal inside the first minute, although Irvinestown were able to keep in touch thanks mainly to the free-taking of Ronan Ormsby. As the half came to a close a scoring burst from Erne Gaels saw them stretch their lead to eight points.

Things got even better for the Belleek men after the break with Seamus Ryder and the impressive Lyons adding to their tally before Barry McCann swooped for a second goal.

Ormsby and James Duffy raised green flags for Irvinestown to give them a glimmer of hope but Luke Ryder struck for the winners’ third goal to book their place in the last four.

Devenish 0-17 Teemore 0-14

Devenish reached another semi-final with a high-scoring performance against Teemore.

Barry Mulrone produced a man-of-the-match display for Devenish as he proved too hot to handle for the Shamrock rearguard kicking points and winning frees at crucial junctures for his side.

The winners led by four points at the break and had much of the play in that opening half. Declan O’Reilly in the Teemore goal had pulled off a stunning save to deny Terry O’Flanagan a three-pointer for Devenish but the points came thick and fast for the Garrison men with Mulrone, John O’Flanagan and Jason Love all on target.

Teemore were able to keep in touch with the impressive John Fitzpatrick on target and Eoin McManus also chipping in with some dead balls.

Upon the resumption the Shamrocks were to enjoy their best period of the game and they tied things up with four points in-a-row, Fitzpatrick and McManus joined in the point-scoring exploits by Jason McCaffrey and Niall Clarke.

Devenish, however, were to reassert their authority on the game and Mulrone was once again to prove the thorn in the Teemore side with a brace of scores with Love also splitting the posts for the eventual winners.
