BENNY COULTER hasn't backed out of his decision to come out of retirement for Down for the upcoming season, contrary to rumours which were circulating on Monday.

Early on Tuesday, a tweet on his personal Twitter account suggested the 33-year-old had made a u-turn on returning to the inter-county scene after a one-year exile.

The tweet stated: “No Down football for me next year just my club Mayobridge. Roll on 2016.”

However, Down followers can breathe easy as the The Irish News has contacted Coulter and we can confirm that the tweet was a prank.

New manager Eamonn Burns revealed last week he will able to call on the services of Coulter next year, but the Mayobridge clubman is unlikely to play any part in their upcoming McKenna Cup campaign due to work commitments.

The Mourne men's opening fixture is against Donegal on Sunday, January 3.
