FORMER Down star Éamon Burns is the latest name to be linked with the Mourne senior post and there were reports on Monday suggesting he would be ratified later this week.
Burns is one of a plethora of names linked to the vacancy since Jim McCorry resigned. Mayobridge manager Michael Walsh was heavily linked to the role, while Paddy O’Rourke, Mickey Linden and Paddy Tally have also been touted for the position.
Burns, who was part of the all-conquering 1991 and ’94 Down teams, took the U21s in 2013 and has also managed Bryansford, Atticall and Darragh Cross in recent years.
Last week, the Down county board said an appointment would be announced “within 10 days”. Former boss James McCartan is expected to take the Down minors next season.
