The Armagh All-Ireland winner was honoured alongside former Tipperary hurling goalkeeper Brendan Cummins and RTE’s GAA anchorman Michael Lyster, who was awarded the GWA Lifetime Achievement award.

Crossmaglen clubman McConville is widely regarded as one of the greatest forwards to have ever played the game and was an integral player in Armagh’s famous 2002 All-Ireland triumph. During his Armagh career he also won seven Ulster Senior Championships, one National League and two Allstars.

He is one of the most decorated club players in history, winning six All-Ireland club titles and ten Ulster club titles with Crossmaglen. McConville is currently joint manager of Crossmaglen, and recently guided them to their 19th Armagh title in 20 years.

Cummins is one of hurling’s most iconic goalkeepers. He retired from Tipperary in 2013 having won two All-Ireland titles, five Munster crowns, three National Leagues and five Allstars.

The Football Personality of the Year award went to Dublin’s Philly McMahon while Paul Murphy was named Hurling Personality of the Year accolade after winning his fourth All-Ireland senior crown with Kilkenny.
