Pearse Óg set to host Donal Powell U10 tournament

THIRTY-TWO teams will take part in Pearse Óg GAC’s Donal Powell U10 tournament on Saturday from 10am.

Clubs from throughout Ireland will contest the annual competition with six pitches being used over a day packed with football and fun. The tournament is memory of club stalwart Donal Powell, who died in March 1993 aged just 27.

“Donal is fondly remembered by Pearse Óg Gaels for his footballing ability and his warm personality,” said club PRO BJ McCay.

“He was a prominent underage player, at full-forward, and won county championship medals at all grades from juvenile to senior. He really excelled at minor level and his goals winning many tight games.

“Donal also instrumental in setting up our U10 agegroup. He helped out also with other youth teams and had just been appointed U14 manager before his untimely death.

“That’s why we saw fit to establish an U10 competition in his memory and it’s testament to his popularity that it has grown to it’s present size.”
