Kilrea 3-17 Swatragh 1-12

FOR 20 minutes Swatragh stayed in contention. Indeed they rocked the Pearses in the fourth minute with a Phillip Mooney goal to take the lead.

But thereafter Kilrea controlled the game and James Kielt took a pass from his brother Charlie 10 minutes from half-time and palmed the ball to the net.

Two minutes from half-time Tiarnan Rafferty drilled the ball across ’keeper Michael O’Kane for a goal to put Kilrea ahead 2-11 to 1-6 at the break

Dermot McWilliams netted a third major four minutes into the second half and the game was over as a contest and they won comfortably in what became a completely one-side encounter.

Paddy McNeill and Dermot McWilliams gave the Swatragh defence a torrid time, with James Kielt accurate from placed balls.

Dungiven 2-11 Banagher 1-10

THERE was little to choose between these two neighbours early on, Gavan O’Neill and Eoin Devine putting Banagher ahead before Ryan McElhinney (free) and Conor Murphy levelled the scores after 10 minutes.

Again Banagher forged two points clear through PJ McCloskey and Padhraic Murphy but Dungiven came back into the tie with scores from Sean O’Neill and another McElhinney free.

With two minutes of the half remaining, Conor Murphy pointed for 0-6 each but Banagher closed the half with points from Conor Lynch and Conor Feeney.

Two minutes into the second half Banagher’s powerful midfielder PJ McCloskey had to leave the field to get a blood injury attended to and it was during his spell on the sideline that Dungiven grabbed two quick goals from Mark Craig and Kevin Boyle.

By the 50th minute O’Neill, Liam Hinphey and Craig had added points to copper-fasten the winning lead, Conor Feeney getting Banagher’s goal in the final minute.

Foreglen 1-12 Newbridge 1-10

THIS very exciting and entertaining game at O’Cahan Park, Dungiven had a sensational start, with Ciaran McFeely finding Gavan McCormick from a free and he set up Marty Farrell for a goal after 30 seconds.

Straight from the quick restart Michael Bateson played a one two with Nathan Rocks and then raced through to plant the ball in the back of the net to tie the scores with just 60 seconds on the timer!

ore occasions, the outstanding Ciaran Brooks levelling at 1-3 each with a stunning 60-metre strike.

Five minutes from half time Eoghan Duffy broke the deadlock for 1-6 to 1-5, Ciaran McFeely from a free and Kevin O’Connor then opening up a three point gap.

However Danny Mulholland and Kevin Sweeney cut the lead to the minimum by half time and Peter McGrogan levelled from a free on the restart.

Whereas the first half had been free-flowing the second half was much more defensive minded, Nathan Rocks twice converting frees to leave one between the sides in the 52nd minute

Ciaran McFeely also scored two points from frees in the second half but the points from play that he scored in 48th and 60th minutes proved crucial in ensuring Foreglen’s first senior championship win  since they beat Lavey in 1965!

Bellaghy 2-14 Glen 1-10

Bellaghy recovered from 1-5 to 0-6 adrift at half-time to run out emphatic seven-point winners at Owenbeg last night.

In the 11th minute Kevin Doherty and Frankie Donnelly combined to send Eoghan Brown racing through to plant the ball in the back of the net for 1-2 to 0-2, Ciaran McFaul (0-3) and Cathal Mulholland (0-2) on target for Glen in the first half.

Midway through the second half, after Michael Warnock had pointed to cut Bellaghy’s lead to a point, 1-7 to 0-9, Fergal Doherty won possession in the middle of the field and Frankie Donnelly powered through the middle and sent a speculative shot that the Glen ’keeper Andrew Warnock failed to read and it dropped into the  back of the net.

Buoyed by that score the Tones controlled the final quarter with Ryan McElwee, Ruairi McElwee, Peter Cassidy from a free and Frankie Donnelly on target for a comfortable victory.

Lavey 3-7 Slaughtneil 1-11

Holders Slaughtneil will have to defend their title through the alternative aide of the draw after their start to the defence of their crown was halted temporarily by a confident and determined Lavey.

But the former All Ireland champions had to come from behind in the final minutes to claim victory, Cailean O’Boyle their two goal hero.

Five minutes into the tie before 2000 fans at Owenbeg Sé McGuigan scored a fine goal under pressure. Four minutes later Niall Toner tied the game at 1-1 each when he took a pass from O’Boyle and netted.

It was nip and tuck to half time, Slaughtneil1-5 to 1-3 ahead at the break.

In the 42nd minute Barry McGuigan fouled Cailean O’Boyle in the goalmouth and the big full forward blasted the  ball to the roof of the net for 2-5 to 1-7.

As befits champions Slaughtneil fought back to regain the lead but in the 55th minute a sensational surge up the endline by Niall Toner ended with a cross to O’Boyle on the edge of the square a nd he palmed the  ball to the net for the winning score
