Captains

Kieran McGeary (Tyrone)

IF Tyrone win today's match in Parnell Park then Kieran McGeary is going to join very distinguished company.

Only two other players have captained Tyrone to success at All-Ireland U21 level. Peter Canavan lifted the Clarke Cup in 1991 and 1992 while the late Cormac McAnallen was captain when Tyrone claimed back-to-back titles in 2000 and 2001.

Colin O'Riordan (Tipperary)

THE Tipperary captain, who doesn't turn 20 until October, is eligible to play again next year. The UCD Arts student is also a phenomenally gifted hurler and he has come under pressure to quit football and join Eamon O'Shea's senior hurling squad. But O'Riordan has refused to abandon the big ball game. "Football is what I love doing. I said it before, I love playing football, I love togging out with this team, and there's a massive bond there. And when Tommy Toomey made me captain, you're not just going to turn your back on them."
