Sporting experts to share their wisdom

EXPERTS in soccer, Gaelic Games and rugby will lead the Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council's Sports Conference on Sunday at the Lagan Valley LeisurePlex (from 9am to 2pm).

This bespoke conference will concentrate on football, Gaelic Games and rugby with registration commencing at 8.30am.

The guest speakers include Oran Kearney (Coleraine manager and former Linfield player); Armagh GAA Allstar, All-Ireland winner and Crossmaglen manager Oisin McConville, Mike McGurn, an international strength and conditioning coach with various rugby and Gaelic football teams, and John Rossborough, ranked third in the world in kickboxing.

BBC sports journalist Thomas Niblock will chair the event. "The programme has been designed to assist those attending enhance their coaching and performance skills," said sports development officer Kevin Madden. "It is appropriate for young sports people and coaches. There will be seminars on mental toughness, turning strength into power, fuel and recovery and making it to the top; and coaching sessions focussing on fundamentals and technical skills. "Already on board to attend are the NI boys' soccer U18 squad, Antrim GAA development squads and Ulster rugby regional development squads.''
