UL retain O'Connor title in some style

UNIVERSITY of Limerick won their ninth O'Connor Cup with a devastating performance in their 3-16 to 0-9 win over DCU in Saturday's final at Cork IT, writes Louise Gunn.

Donegal's Kate Keaney collected her second successive O'Connor All-Ireland medal with UL while it was disappointment for Monaghan's DCU captain Laura McEnaney.

The 16-point victory was a fair reflection of the champions' dominance. Leading by six points at half-time after a strong second quarter, UL pushed on thanks to two Aine Tighe goals soon after the resumption. Roisin Leonard scored their first half goal from a penalty.

Earlier in the day, Trinity College, Dublin beat Athlone IT by 1-16 to 1-9 in the second-tier Giles Cup while there was some consolation for DCU as their reserves overcame DIT on a 2-13 to 1-10 score line in the Lynch Cup. St Patrick's, Drumcondra beat Liverpool Hope University 5-10 to 0-1 to win the Donaghy Cup.
