Monaghan hit back to grab Tyrone draw

MONAGHAN came from five points behind at half-time to draw 2-10 to 1-13 with Tyrone in their opening NHL Division 3A tie at Healy Park, writes Francis Mooney. Two Tony Forde goals sent the Farneymen home with a point, after Damien Casey had led the Tyrone charge with a 1-7 haul.

Forde struck his first major in the 19th minute, but that was cancelled out by a Casey strike, netted directly from a free. Points from Aidy Kelly and Sean Og Grogan helped the Red Hands to a 1-10 to 1-5 interval lead but the visitors reeled off 1-3 in the opening 10 minutes of the second half, going ahead with a Niall Garland free.

The lead changed hands frequently, with Casey and Conor Grogan swapping scores with Garland and Stephen Lambe.

But it was Ronan Meegan, with his fourth point of the afternoon who tied it up for the final time with seven minutes to play.
