Paul McGirr tournament enters its 16th season

ARMAGH legend Oisin McConville is the guest speaker at the annual Paul McGirr Ulster U16 Club FC launch at Tyrone's GAA centre in Garvaghey this evening (8pm).

The prestigious competition began in 1999 to mark the memory of McGirr, who died in 1997 following a collision during the TyroneArmagh Ulster Minor Championship game in Omagh.

The action gets underway on Saturday, October 18.

Organiser Joe Rafferty said: "2014 will mark the 16th year of the competition and, with more sponsors having come on board and plans in place for game highlights to be available online, this year promises to be even bigger and better than before.

"The prestige of the competition has been growing from year to year and it is now well established as one of the leading youth tournaments in the GAA calendar."

Confirmed county champions taking part are Burren (Down), Clann Eireann (Armagh), St Brigid's (Antrim), Dungiven (Derry), Crosserlough (Cavan), Derrygonnelly (Fermanagh), with Monaghan, Tyrone and Donegal representatives to be confirmed.

All proceeds from the tournament will go to help the work of The Spirit Of Paul McGirr Trust in Zambia.
