Burt crowned champs again

DEFENDING champions Burt won a fourth Donegal SHC title in-a-row on Saturday with a 6-9 defeat of MacCumhaill's, writes Gerry Maguire.

Five Burt players found the net, while MacCumhaill's were overly reliant on the free-taking of Lee Henderson. MacCumhaill's misery was only compounded when two of their county men, Paddy Hannigan and Justin McGee, were red-carded in the second half.

Ronan McDermott raised the first of six green flags for the Burt men in the 12th minute to put his side 1-2 to 0-2 ahead. MacCumhaill's hit back though when Hannigan won the ball, rounded Martin McGrath and fired past Paul Burns to equalise. A lucky Niall Campbell goal and a bundled effort from Stevie Boyle put the champions ahead by 3-5 to 1-4 at the interval. Henderson helped cut the deficit to four points after the break, but a Stephen Gillespie goal was the killer blow. Further goals from Enda McDermott and Niall Campbell helped Burt to an easy victory.
